The original Nutcracker ballet opened in Saint Petersburg, Russia on December 17, 1892. The ballet tells the tale of a girl named Clara who receives a nutcracker doll for Christmas from her godfather. That night, she falls asleep and dreams she is under attack by an army of mice led by the Mouse King. Clara is rescued the Nutcracker. He whisks her through the Enchanted Snow Forest and off to the land of the Sugarplum Fairy.
